Departing Alice Springs.

Departing Alice Springs QF 796 to Melbourne

Arrival in Melbourne at 14:50 pm, Helen at the airport waiting patiently, we didn’t have to worry about luggage as that was booked through to Dusseldorf.

On the way to seeing Deb’s Nanna, Steve realised he had bought the wrong flash card for our new camera… which Helen had picked up earlier in the week.  Steve some how managed to order the wrong flash card, (he ordered a CF instead of a photo grade SD card).  So then we were on a mission to Ted’s camera store to buy the SD card.  Okay picked that up & now off to see Nanna.  When we got there she was doing knitting & getting a bit frustrated with the box she had it in.  The poor lady, just doesn’t know what’s going on.  We took her some biscuits, chocolates & orange juice.  She would have quite happily sit there & eat the whole packet.

Leaving Nanna was sad as usual, she’s tired & says she just wants to go to sleep & not wake up.

Off to Helen & Jim’s mansion, for a coffee & pizza.  (wish we had La Porchetta in Alice) very tasty pizzas.  My sister, Sheryl her son Ben & his son Kyran was there also my mother from Tassie.  Bit of a reunion.
Sheryl, Helen & Debbie.

21:30 & off to the airport with plenty of time to check in & sit down & relax in the QANTAS lounge.

All aboard we’re heading for Hong Kong which was a 9 hour flight.  Trouble free which was great.  A 90 minute stop over, then off to line up again to re-board for the Heathrow flight.  This was a trouble free flight as well, only problem was that it was another long flight, 12 ½ hours .  Their  Customs  people were quite a bit stricter than the other airports….believe it or not I had to have a complete body scan – they didn’t quite believe me that I had body armour in my riding pants….After a 5 hour stopover at Heathrow we were off to Dusseldorf for the last leg of our journey, thank god this flight only took an hour, what a relief no more planes this week!

Debbie getting tea, Heathrow T5 BA Lounge.

With hardly any wait for our bags, Claudia & Werner were there to greet us.  How scary is it when you’re sitting in the car & speeding along the highway on the right side of the road for Germany!

Cheers,
Deb and Stephen.
