We made it to 'Neuschwanstein & Hohenschwangau Castles''

Saturday 17/9/11

After a good sleep last night, we were off by 9:15 arriving at the BMW Museum around 10:30. While I was checking out the parking & fee payment, Stephen was being ‘famously’ photographed by Japanese tourists, then when he told them where he was from they took more photos.

What shall we build?  ah, an Isetta - the first car BMW built after the war

Mmmmmmmm.....................................

It is a gigantic museum; unfortunately some parts of the museum had suffered technical problems so we did not get to see that section.  Stephen really enjoyed seeing all the bikes & vehicles, talking about the history of BMW.  We were there for a good 3.5 hours.  Now we can tick that one off, Brad.

Hmmm.....lots & lots of bikes!

Looks like HPN's work here ?

Superbikes too...

Another Dakar winning Bike here too.

BMWsell many bike into govenments agencys all over the world. 1st of the bike manafacturing companys to do this, and still the best at it.

Off we go again, the weather had warmed up whilst we were in the museum, we had a nice bright sunny day of riding to our next destination, Bavaria, Schwangau area.

We pitched our tent just before a big thunder storm rolled in, we were very lucky once again as the storm went around us.  We plan to stay at this kampingplatz for 2 nights.  There are at least 2 castles we would like to see.  One is the Schloss Hohenschwangau  the other is called Schloss Neuschwanstein, famous for its part in the movie, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.  Walt Disney, modelled some of their theme park castles after it.

That Castle !!

Deb sorting out the tent just before the thunderstorm rolled in.

We are planning on catching a bus up to the castles, then going in a cable car up to ‘Tegelberg.
Sunday 18/09/11.
Had a good day today also, we had rain right throughout the night and all of today......It did not stop us from visiting the castles though.  Slight change of plan, we rode the bike instead of waiting around for the bus.  Our camp site was not far from the Castles anyway.
It was around 23.50 euro each for the entrance fee for both the castles.  We went on a guided tour in each castle.  The guides were very informative and were able to answer many questions.   We had heard you are not suppose to take photos inside the castles, now we know why.  There are  large paintings on the walls that are over approx 150 years old, the paint we are told is effected by the light from  flash photography.  The wood work throughout the castles was magnificent.  In Neuschwanstein, it took 14 woodcarvers 4 years to complete King Ludwig II,  bed chamber.  It was very detailed & delicately crafted.  Unfortunately he died at the age of 40, after his doctor found him insane, he was found drowned with his doctor in a lake near Munich.  A bit too suspicious.  So after King Ludwig II death, all construction & works on the castle  ceased the day after his death.
Grey wet day.

One of the other building in the small 'tourest' village near the two castles.

We did not do this extra walk to the viewing bridge, were wet enough!!

Deb updating the Blog in the hotel we 'borrored' the WiFi from...

Still raining as we write this blog, in a hotel   between the two castles.  We managed to get access to a hotels Wi Fi & hopefully add some blog details & photos.  After leaving here we are heading back to the camp site for house hold duties!!!

From here we are going to meet Claudia & Werner at the HPN workshop tomorrow.
